India is not only the land of diversity and opportunity, it is also the land of great history and hospitality. The dynamics of host-guest relationship in India is reflected by the saying “Atithi Devo Bhava (a guest is akin to God)”, which embodies the traditional Indian philosophy of revering guests with the same respect as God. Indian philosophy and culture is also reflected from the phrase ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ from the Hindu texts such as Maha Upanishads which means the ‘World is One Family’. Manifesting this true spirit India seeks to play an important role during the opportunity of G20 Presidency by endeavouring to find pragmatic global solutions for the wellbeing of all. 30 societies from across the globe are partner societies of Spine20 2023.
Welcome to the land of diversity, opportunity, culture, heritage and hospitality for the 4th Annual Summit of Spine20, a global spine alliance think tank. SPINE20 is an advocacy group founded in 2019 in an effort to improve spine care on a global level through recommending policies to the G20 countries that help them alleviate the burden of spine disease through various means including stimulating better spine health, advanced spine research, enhancing spine innovation pathways and improving spine care and treatments. Various prestigious Spine societies like EUROSPINE, German Spine Society, North American Spine Society and Saudi Spine Society are the founder members.
The theme of Spine20 2023 is “One Earth, One Family, One Future WITHOUT Spine DISABILITY”. This theme was especially chosen since low back pain is the single leading cause of disability in 160 countries and causes an estimated loss of 800,000 Disability Adjusted Life Years (DALY) globally every year. Economic burden of back pain is estimated between 1% to 2% of the gross national product in Western nations and more than 100 billion dollars annually in the U.S.
Association of Spine Surgeons of India (ASSI), one of the collaborating partner society of Spine20, is the host for this year’s Summit. 13 Spine professional and consumer Societies from all over India have joined hands to make this event a grand success.
On behalf of the Executive and Scientific Program Committees of SPINE20, it would be an honour and a privilege to welcome all esteemed experts and professional societies from all over the world for the SPINE20 2023. We look forward to seeing you all in August.
Let’s join hands to improve Spine Wellness and Care across the globe and especially in underserved areas and to alleviate the burden of Spine disease.
